Hypnotherapy

🧠 Hypnotherapy vs. Stage Hypnosis

While hypnosis can be used in both entertainment and therapy, it’s important to distinguish the two.

🎭 FESH Is for Stage Hypnotists

The Federation of Ethical Stage Hypnotists (FESH) is dedicated solely to professional stage hypnotists.
Our remit does not include hypnotherapy or therapeutic hypnosis in any form.

While some of our members may also practise hypnotherapy in private practice, this is entirely separate from their membership with FESH.

🧘 What About Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy has shown potential benefits in helping with:

  • Smoking cessation

  • Weight management

  • Anxiety

  • Phobias and more

In fact, many people first become curious about hypnotherapy after witnessing the power of hypnosis during a live show.

⚠️ Important Notice

FESH cannot offer advice or recommendations related to hypnotherapy. If you are considering this form of treatment:

  • Do your own research.

  • Ask for recommendations from trusted friends or family.

  • Your first point of contact should always be your GP or healthcare provider.

Be Cautious

There is no legally recognised qualification for hypnotherapy in the UK.

This means that anyone can claim to be a hypnotherapist—and some may use impressive-sounding titles or letters after their name. Always:

  • Check what those letters actually represent

  • Look into the organisation that awarded them

  • Investigate their training and experience

A little due diligence can help you avoid unqualified or unscrupulous practitioners.
